BOISERIE, CABINETRY & COFFERED CEILING – ABRAMOVA HOME
Bespoke boiserie, cabinetry and a coffered ceiling in pickled oak create an elegant transition from the living space to the stairwell while providing ample storage for the owners of this re-modeled home near Lake Lugano.
STAIRWAY, NICHE AND STORAGE – CAMPI HOUSE
For this completely renovated Milan apartment, limited space required an innovative solution for reaching the rooftop terrace while maximizing living and storage space. The volume taken up by a chimney was redirected within one of the walls – and reappears on the terrace as a striking prism of stainless steel – while a bespoke staircase, with hidden storage closet, was built into the wall along with a lighted display niche visible from both the living room and the terrace.
TEAKWOOD TERRACE SCREEN – CARDARELLI HOUSE
The owners of this Roman penthouse apartment requested a screen that could run the full length of their terrace to gain an outdoor 'room', ideal for entertaining, while still allowing for the free flow of air. The solution was a series of made-to-measure steel frames – clad with custom-milled, solid teakwood slats – mounted on a larger steel frame that connected back to the house to allow for the eventual mounting of awnings in the summer.
D.I.S.D.
Reading Chair in solid oak and rawhide. Inspired by an elementary school desk, geometric forms belie a comfortable, ergonomic chair suitable for living, bedroom or library spaces. The under chair storage keeps your current read (or knitting project) at hand.
D.I.S.D. GARDEN
Garden, balcony or patio chair in solid oak and galvanized steel offers unique design in comfortable outdoor seating. Like the tin pail its surface slyly quotes, it can store gardening gloves, a beach towel or that great summer read.
DROP
A drop ceiling neon panel swivels on a steel trestle, and is echoed by the shape of the Valdossola "Pallissandro" marble base.
STUBE AND FIREPLACE – CORTINA D'AMPEZZO
This bespoke fireplace is made of volcanic stone and tempered glass, and paired with a ceramic tile stove. It was designed and built for a client's vacation home in Cortina d'Ampezzo in the Dolomites.
INCLUSION
Steel square stock, glass and Valdossola granite combine to make a one of a kind coffee table suitable for indoor or outdoor use. Successive editions vary according to the inspiration the artist draws from selected stone.
LEDISONE – Living-LAB, VARESE
Three-dimensional backdrop designed and produced for a conference held at Varese's Living-LAB. Ledisone, is an Italian firm that designs and produces eco-friendly LED lighting for a multitude of uses including the low-consumption LEDs used in the TITANIA lamp.
MINT MARKET MILAN
For MINT Market in Milan, Matthew readapted the store's logo to create a laser-cut, steel wall-panel. In addition he designed and produced the store's modular MINT shelving units, the work tables and many of the other unique details of this concept store's interior including the door handle.
MINT
Balanced between geometric form and organic structure, this modular shelving system can be adapted to varied storage or display requirements. Beech plywood boxes are suspended on gilded steel standards and smaller movable boxes accommodate changing needs.
PLACE
A mild steel base supports an elm veneer setting for a nineteenth-century, Tuscan paving stone. The inimitable nature of the inset makes every edition of this table one-of-a-kind.
STICKER
Modular construction combines easily with natural forms in this cedar and steel bookshelf. Modular units can be moved and stacked at will to accommodate varying use.
TITANIA
Rough cut from a single sheet of mild steel, the backlit figure may be hung on a wall or simply placed on the floor.
ZANZIBAR RESTAURANT – BELLINZONA, SWITZERLAND
Inspired by the name, this Swiss bar-restaurant was reconceived with an intense color scheme and hand-painted wall murals depicting tropical vegetation. A bespoke shelving system, of bent stainless steel 'vines' and beveled wooden shelves, was designed for the wall behind the bar.
